Comics + Cartoons

I don’t know why but there are lots of people who didn’t like cartoons or comics, it’s probably because they find it very childish, useless or too fantastic. The thing is that I like them; I have always enjoyed them, since childhood. The first cartoon or rather animé that affected me was Sailor Moon. After this, many others were to follow, like; Hey Arnold, The Rugrats, Real Monsters, Digimon, Naruto, Koni Chan, Bobby’s world, Doug, Animaniacs, Space ghost coast to coast, and many more, I'm sure I’m missing a lot too. As you can see I used to watch a lot of Tv (I still do, by the way). I watched so many different programs and some have nothing in common with each other, that I don’t know what specifically refer to, but I like the genre of adventure, comedy, romance...everything really.

Continuing with the subject, of course I still see cartoons, though perhaps more mature themes are touched, the essence is the same. I'm sure some of you have also happened, that when you have watched old animated series. you realize of many things (sometimes sexual jokes) that as a child you would have never understood.  And then I think what kind of things did I watch as a child? This is not something that alarmed me, is not something that I would forbid to my children, mainly because they wouldn’t understand, but it surprised me that something like it is transmitted and is directed to children, it is very strange.  Because I am concerned about the hiper sexualization of the society in general, but more in children.

I think I can only speak of this for myself. I learned about recycling through the Tv and the media in general. Probably because I’m interested in it but not too much really. My family and I recycle every week, we have a special trash can for it, that way we recollect during the week and on the weekend we go to our recycling center.
I’m not really an active person, so I use a car and the public transport, principally because I live far away from the university which is the place I go the most. And because I don’t see myself riding a bicycle during 2 hours, just no. I don’t have the energy or the time.
Like I said earlier, this is not something that I care too much to join an organization, I’m conscious about the environment but I don’t go crazy about it. I disconnect the things I don’t use all the time, turn off the lights, recycle and use eco friendly bags. But that’s all.

I think that now is necessary to educate the people to understand how important the environment is. Until now there are still people who throw their garbage out the window of their cars or the bus or they just leave it there. In these times that’s like an eco sin or something like that and we shouldn’t tolerated anymore. We must educated people from the begging, while they are still children.

South american news

This news happens in Venezuela, in this country the “superintendence of fair prices”, fixed the prices of hundreds of products from various brands; like Sony, LG, Converse and Everlast. The list was published on its website, that way everyone who is interested can see the list. Having regard to the provisions of the Organic Law of Fair Prices, which requires a maximum of 30% profit on the cost structure in all economic activities. The list goes from technological gadgets, foods, clothes and even cars. I find it particularly interesting that they have a superintendence that handles these issues and further limits the gain of these big companies, because I think that in Chile, the cost of living is quite high, I think everyone here paid much for everything. For example, we have the most expensive concerts in the region. Is a shame, and it’s even worse than we don’t do anything about it and we are willing to spend money that amount of money on something that is not worth it.
So I think the idea is good, the problem is that down below the article are many comments of Venezuelans saying that it's time now to get the products, as they have prices. One of them even says the Sony closed commercial operations in last December. Anyway, that’s another story.

Here’s the article if you want to check it.

The Guardian's article

First I have to say that I chose this article because I am a fan of Mean Girls and somehow I have to commemorate its 10 years.
The article talks about the 10th anniversary of the film, reviewing the well known quotes from the film, its screenwriter, the cast and the legion of fans that have left over the years.
The article recognized that in a kind of way Mean Girls is close to the real life, but also talks about the absurdity that characterizes the movie, exemplifying with the exaggeration of the Burn Book, Karen’s gifted breasts and the math rapping. The journalist emphasizes on the quotes, which are easily recognizable, thanks to the internet.
The article talks also about the cast, referring to it as half decent, recognizing for their work to Rachel McAdmas and Lizzy Caplan.
Finally the article concludes that Mean Girls, like any teen comedy, is full of drama and bullying, however, the movie has been able to stand out and become one of the pillars of pop culture without feeling like a MySpace-era throwback.

At the end of the article, the journalist shows Youtube videos of the best scenes and quotes of the movie. You can visit the site and watch them if you want.
